Dion Abadi was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1971. His career has spanned military service, wildlife conservation, publishing, and the international auction industry.

In 1989 he joined the South African Defence Force and served about two years as a combat medic. He was selected for a special security assignment guarding Nelson Mandela during talks with State President F.W. de Klerk. He later worked as a game ranger on a private reserve adjoining Kruger National Park, helping develop a rhinoceros conservation program and receiving a Kruger conservation award.

Dion moved to the United States in 1994 and began at an auction company in Los Angeles as a sales clerk, rising to head auctioneer. He specializes in fine art, jewelry, watches, and collectibles — with a calm, clear approach at the podium and a focus on trust for buyers and sellers.

He is the author of The Collector's Guide to Art, Jewelry, Watches & Auctions and Beyond the Gavel, available on Amazon and other booksellers. A father of four, he continues to guide collectors through live and specialty auctions.
